Pier-2 Art Center

In addition to vehicles, there are also ships coming in and going out of the Pier-2 Art Center next to the pier. Crowds of people are visiting the Pier-2 Art Center, with the sea breeze blowing over the vast sea to capture our imaginations and thoughts. At the junction of land and sea, we can see the broad and bright future. Although government agencies responsible for operational management and imaginative artists have their own dreams, they coordinate their steps in this field, adjust their directions, and move toward a common ideal. In the conflict between the administration and the artists, the close partnership is built and the image of the Pier-2 Art Center is constructed in everyone's mind. In the conflict between the old and the new, the strong vitality.is born.

In 2006, the Bureau of Cultural Affairs under the Kaohsiung City Government took over the Pier-2 Art Center. In the past, it was used to store the fish meal and granulated sugar for the port. Now, the design and creative energy are gathered here to enrich every imaginative soul. The Kaohsiung Design Festival, the Delight of Chinese Character Festival, the Steel & Iron Sculpture Festival, the Container Arts Festival, the Live Warehouse Refusal Concert, etc. are each presenting performances full of urban creative characteristics and bringing new concepts and appearances to the energetic Pier-2 Art Center that builds up the charming culture and life aesthetics of the harbor city. In recent years, the VR Somatosensory Theater has also been built here to present the film in a 360-degree panorama that transcends vision and imagination, which is far more brilliant than reality!

Hamasen

In 1908, the Japanese carried out the Koahsiung port project, and reclaimed the land to build the first Xinshi St. in Taiwan. It created the new vitality of the Koahsiung port, so that the Koahsiung port became the largest port city in southern Taiwan. As Xinshi St. has a coastal railway that leads to the commercial port and fishing port in the coastal area, it is called Hamasen in Japanese, which means “coastal line.” The local residents directly used the Japanese to name this place, so it literally is called Hamasen. It is also the political, economic, cultural and education center of Kaohsiung in the early days of the Japanese occupation.

Because of this historical factor, Hamasen has gathered many sightseeing and delicacy spots in this area, such as the ferry boat heading towards the Cijin, the Fisherman's Wharf, the Banana Pier, the artistic warehouse clusters of Pier-2 Art center, the History Museum of Kaohsiung Port, and the Takao Railway Museum. Also, due to the proximity to the National Sun Yat-sen University, it has become a center of students' daily activities and a tourist spot where people can enjoy cheap snacks, frozen treats and seafood.

Sizihwan

Sizihwan is famous for its sunset scenery and natural reefs. The area includes the Sea Resort, Seaside Park, the British Consulate at Takow and other attractions. It has a sea view and a view of Kaohsiung Port. The Sea Resort is very tropical and exhibits a southern style. When the night falls, the sea and sky are beautiful with the sunset glowing and the lights flashing on the fishing boats. The Sunset at Sizihwan is one of the top eight scenic spots in Kaohsiung. At sunset, the stone railings along the coast dike are the best place to enjoy the sunset.

Shoushan

Shoushan is a sacred mountain in Kaohsiung City that is easy to get close to and rich in natural resources. There is a “Taiwan Macaque Natural Reserve” here. The macaques play in  groups between the trees. If you are lucky, you can see the monkeys jumping and leaping among the trees. In addition to the cute macaques, Shoushan Zoo also has a variety of rare animals such as large mammals, reptiles and birds. Shoushan Zoo also has one of the largest mosaic murals in Taiwan.

The "Lovers' Viewing Platform" is located in the Martyr's Shrine of Shoushan. The viewing platform is themed on love. On the fenced glass, words of “I love you” in various languages are written. There are also many art installations. There is also a wooden love index book on the wooden table, which depicts the love image of Shoushan. In addition to the installation art of the love megaphone made of steel pipes, it also includes the love trilogy of stone-carved macaques, lover tree-rosary peas, Bridge of Love, etc., which is quite eye-catching. Couples can follow the above records to hunt treasures one by one.

Love River

Love River was originally only a shallow stream for ferryboats. It was dredged into a canal during the Japanese colonial period and was named Kaohsiung River. Until the 1940s, near the Zhongzheng Bridge on the banks of the river, a "Love River Boating Service Shop" was opened to provide Boating Services. Many couples went to rafting, talked about love, and then created a series of stories. Thus, the unique name of Love River was born.
Along the way, there will be several bridges across the two sides. Among them, you can see the train passing by from Lingya Bridge. Kaohsiung Bridge is the romantic starting point for a walk along the Love River. The other bridges are also connected with several famous attractions on the river banks, such as the Love River Landscape Water Park, 228 Peace Park, Holy Rosary Church, True Love Pier, which can be approached via different bridges.

There is also a 30-minute boat trip from True Love Pier to Zhongzheng Bridge. You can choose to take a love on the new-generation solar boat and enjoy the scenery on both sides of the river. The edge of the cruise boat, "Love Boat," is also equipped with LED night light illumination. If you choose to navigate the river at night, you can also see the interesting scene of the fish chasing the light and playing around along the way.
Every year near the Lantern Festival, the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival will be prepared along the Lover River. If you choose to go there, you must not miss it. You will see a variety of beautiful lanterns lighting up the whole river, as well as various performances such as water dances and fireworks. At the Dragon Boat Festival, you can also participate in the very traditional dragon boat race.
